Our Story...
My name is Bill Rozich and I have a Black Lab named Bobby. It is because of Bobby
that this site was developed.
I lost Bobby a couple of years ago when someone left the back gate open on my first
night back in Colorado. Have you ever tried looking for a Black Lab on a moonless
night?
I drove around until about two in the morning and finally went home. I slept on
the porch that night hoping I would hear the jingle of his collar if he walked by
in the middle of the night. I didn't get much sleep, every little sound woke me.
In the morning, I called the animal shelter to see if they had picked up a Black
Lab. They told me they could not tell me. I asked if they had picked up any black
dogs during the night or this morning. Again, they said they could not tell me and
insisted that I come down and look for myself. I was rather annoyed and distraught
with my stomach in knots from worrying about Bobby and said; "What do you mean you
don't know whether or not you picked up a black dog last night. How is that possible?"
They still would not give me any information and said I should come down and look.
I gave up trying to get information from them and drove down to the shelter to see
if Bobby was there. When I got to the shelter and Bobby was not there and found
out there were no plans in place to help me find him, I was even more upset and
worried.
One thing led to another and, thankfully, I found Bobby, safe and unharmed. As a
result of this experience and the methods I used to find Bobby, I developed the
Amber Alert for Pets™ program. Amber Alert for Pets™ is an association of pet owners
that pledge to one another that when we receive a lost pet alert from Amber Alert
for Pets™, we will go out in our neighborhood and look for that lost pet.
How Amber Alert for Pets Works...
As things are today if your pet should become lost there will be very few people
looking for your pet, if any, besides you. Amber Alert for Pets™ is here to change
that. Amber Alert for Pets™ is an Internet-based association of pet owners pledged
to look for each other’s lost pets.
When your pet is registered with Amber Alert for Pets™, within minutes from the
moment you report your lost pet through the Amber Alert for Pets™ web site, literally
hundreds of people will be put on alert to look for your lost pet. This drastically
increases the chances of your pet’s safe return to you.
Our membership consists of pet owners, veterinary doctors and clinics, animal service
organizations, pet stores, professional groomers, professional pet sitters, kennel
owners, animal trainers, etc. This compassionate army is committed to seeing every
lost animal safely returned home.
Our membership goes into action upon receiving an e-mail alert of an Amber Alert
for Pets™ lost pet report. Immediately, our pet owners will look in their neighborhood
for your lost pet. Lost pet flyers will be posted. Everyone will know what your
pet looks like, your pet’s name, is your pet shy or friendly, is your pet on any
medication, how you want to be contacted, etc. Keep in mind that the more information
you provide when you register your pet that will help in identifying your pet -
the better.
We are a proactive association. We do not sit and wait for someone to call us and
say they have found your pet. We go out and look for your pet and this makes all
the difference in the world.
If flyers on telephone poles are a good idea and they are, then Amber Alert for
Pets™ is the nuclear option of good ideas when it comes to finding lost pets. If
anyone is going to help you find your lost pet, it is other pet owners and people
in the pet industry and that is who we are.
Finally, there is some confusion about the microchip. The microchip is only a form
of identification. It is a superb form of identification but it will not help you
find your pet. It will identify a pet when they are found. Some people mistakenly
believe their pet can be found because it has a microchip and this is not true.
For the record, we believe you should microchip your pets.
Concerning Amber Alert for Pets™, if you have questions and want to talk with someone,
do not hesitate to call. I can be reached at 719-217-3776. My name is Bill and this
all started because I lost my Black Lab Bobby. Bobby is safe at home with me now
and it was the proactive principals in this program that secured his safe return
to me.
I want to encourage you to register your pet today with Amber Alert for Pets™ and
protect yourself and the precious life you call your best friend from the horror
of unwanted separation. Today, 50% of lost pets are never reunited with their families.
You and I are going to change that, one pet at a time.
For additional information visit our web site at amberalertforpets.com. While you
are visiting our site, please keep in mind that it is undergoing the changes necessary
for it to interface with MapQuests web services and may be in a slight state of
disarray (MapQuest will soon power our membership search engine which will allow
us to respond to lost pet reports in seconds). Take a look at the site and let us
know what you think, what you like and what you think we could do better.
I look forward to you becoming a member of our compassionate army.
Sincerely,
Bill Rozich
